AYSO CORE Program

AYSO 572 Core Program

Level: All

Age Group: 6-18yrs

What is AYSO Core?

Our Grassroots program serves as the heart of our soccer activities. It’s designed to be age-appropriate and developmentally challenging, guided by AYSO’s Six Philosophies. These principles reflect AYSO’s Mission and Vision, shaping everything we do.

Our Six Philosophies:

  • Everyone Plays®

  • Balanced Teams

  • Open Registration

  • Positive Coaching

  • Good Sportsmanship

  • Player Development

What does “Everyone Plays®” mean?

In AYSO, “Everyone Plays®” means that every child participates in at least half of every game. This ensures that all players gain valuable playing time and experience.

What are “Balanced Teams”?

Our balanced team approach means that teams are formed to provide an equitable playing experience, focusing on personal growth, good sportsmanship, and being a great teammate. This child-first approach prioritizes player development over winning, making AYSO one of the top youth sports programs dedicated to nurturing happy, healthy kids.

Can older kids still enjoy AYSO?

Absolutely! For older players, our 16U-19U Program offers advanced play opportunities. This program follows AYSO's philosophies and policies with adjustments to enhance enjoyment and accessibility for teenagers. Coed teams, flexible substitution guidelines, and travel team options are available. Players can compete against local high schools, participate in select teams, and enjoy heightened competition.

Our Core Program:

This is our foundational recreation program for age groups 6U and up, embracing all of AYSO’s Six Philosophies. The goal is to develop technical skills while ensuring that the primary focus remains on having fun. Every player participates in at least 50% of each game. Our seasons run from August to November for Fall and March to June for Spring. Games are played on Saturdays at the Waynesville Rec Center, with one to two training sessions scheduled during the week (except for 6U, which is Saturday only).

Age Groups and Match Formats:

  • 6U: 3v3 (no keeper) - 30-minute pre-match training session / 20-minute match

  • 8U: 5v5 (no keeper) - 40-minute match

  • 10U: 7v7 - 50-minute match

  • 12U: 9v9 - 60-minute match

Schoolyard Program

AYSO 572 Schoolyard Program

Level: Beginner

Age Group: 4-5 Yrs.

What is AYSO Schoolyard Jamboree?

The AYSO Schoolyard Jamboree is a program designed for young children to learn soccer in a fun and supportive environment. Each team consists of three players, with each child accompanied by a parent or another adult on the field. The focus is on introducing soccer basics like kicking, dribbling, and throwing in a relaxed setting, free from competitive pressure.

How do parents participate?

Parents play an integral role by helping to organize teams, set up fields, and supervise the program. While their children are on the field, parent volunteers manage the game time but minimize interference. Play may only be paused for reasons such as addressing conflicts between players, handling injuries, or other necessary interruptions. Parents are encouraged to quickly guide attention back to the game to maintain its flow.

Is there competition in AYSO Schoolyard Jamboree?

There is no competition in Jamboree; the focus is purely on enjoyment and skill development. Goals are not tracked to determine winners; instead, every player is considered a winner. The emphasis is on helping children get acquainted with soccer and enjoy their time on the field, with a supportive environment provided by the adults present. Children still wear jerseys or pinnies, cleats, and shin guards, ensuring they experience the joy of playing soccer while understanding it as a fun and accessible sport.
